A BRIEF HISTORY

The Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery is located 2 miles West of Bassett. It was originally 10 acres of land owned by Thomas Crook. Mr. Crook who donated the land to the City of Bassett in 1938 and the name changed from “Crook Cemetery” to the Bassett Memorial Park Cemetery. The earliest recorded burial was of Bobbie Crook in 1888. The Chapel was erected in 1955. Dennis Arrowsmith sold an extra 5 acres of land for the cemetery’s expansion in 1977. In 1988 the “Rock County Time Capsule” was buried in front of the Chapel, only to be opened 50 years later in 2038. In 2008 the original cemetery board was dissolved, and the Bassett City Council now governs the cemetery. The management of the cemetery is part of the city’s Utility Billing Clerk’s responsibilities, financials are managed by the City Clerk, and the regular maintenance of the grounds and burials are attended to by the City Crew workers. In 2024, Dennis Swanson & the City of Bassett are in discussions for another expansion to the East.
